IMPORTANT: Be sure to check the chart below to make sure this part fits your particular vehicle.

This direct bolt-in CII-style pump, designed by Lee Power Steering, utilizes Saginaw-style internals. This provides a high-performance pump that is much quieter and performs better than those noisy stock Ford pumps.

Why does this part cost more than a remanufactured Ford replacement pump? This new hand-assembled steering pump with all new components is tested at our shop in Valencia, California.

Different Variations of the Ford CII Pump

Ford CII Pump Variations

Reservoir Style

There are three different reservoir can styles:

  1. Single return line barb – for vehicles without hydro boost brakes
  2. Dual return line barbs – for vehicles with hydro boost brakes
  3. No fill cap or neck – for vehicles that use a remote power steering fluid reservoir

Hose Type

Over the years, these pumps came with two different hose thread options:

  • 5/8-18 SAE Inverted Flare
  • 16x1.5MM Metric

Pressure and Flow

Ford also had many different pressure and flow settings depending on the vehicle.

We have simplified this by offering these settings:

  1. Single Return Reservoir for Gearbox: 1450PSI / 2.75GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-GB (METRIC)
  2. Single Return Reservoir for Rack and Pinion: 1250PSI / 2.25GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-R (METRIC)
  3. Dual Return Reservoir for Gearbox with Hydro Boost: 1750PSI / 3.25GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-HB (METRIC)
  4. No Neck (Remote Reservoir) for Rack and Pinion: 1250PSI / 2.5GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-REMOTE-R (METRIC)
  5. Single Return Reservoir for Rack and Gearbox: 1450PSI / 2.75GPM / 5/8-18 SAE Inverted Flare Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-GB (SAE)

Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicles does this pump fit?

This pump is designed as a direct bolt-in replacement for many Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles equipped with a Ford CII power steering pump and a 5/8-18 SAE inverted flare pressure hose connection. Please verify your application using the fitment chart before ordering.

What makes this pump different from a remanufactured Ford CII pump?

Unlike most replacement pumps, this unit is built with all-new components and uses Lee Power Steering's proprietary Saginaw-style internal rotor and vane design. The result is improved durability, quieter operation, better low-RPM performance, and increased fluid flow compared to the original Ford CII pump design.

Why is the Lee CII pump quieter than the stock Ford pump?

The original Ford CII pumps are known for their whining noise. Lee's redesigned pump uses Saginaw-style internals with a more efficient rotor and vane arrangement that reduces noise, improves fluid movement, and decreases wear.

Is this pump intended for a steering gearbox or rack-and-pinion system?

This version is specifically configured for steering gearbox applications and is calibrated to 1450 PSI and 2.75 GPM. These settings are generally better suited for gearbox-equipped vehicles than rack-and-pinion systems.

What pressure hose fitting does this pump use?

This model uses a 5/8-18 SAE inverted flare pressure outlet fitting. Be sure your vehicle's pressure hose matches this connection type before ordering.

Does this pump have a single or dual return reservoir?

This pump features a single-return reservoir designed for vehicles that do not use hydroboost brakes. Vehicles equipped with hydroboost typically require a dual-return reservoir.

Can this pump be used with hydroboost brakes?

No. This specific version is not intended for hydroboost applications. If your vehicle uses hydroboost brakes, we recommend one of our dual-return CII pump configurations.

Can I customize the pressure and flow settings?

Yes. All Lee CII pumps can be custom configured with specific pressure, flow, reservoir style, and hose fitting options to match your application.

Is this a brand-new pump?

Yes. Every Lee CII pump is assembled using new components and is tested in-house at our Valencia, California facility before shipment. It is not a rebuilt or remanufactured unit.

What fluid should I use?

Lee Power Steering Fluid is strongly recommended for maximum pump life and reduced foaming.

Acceptable alternatives include:

  • AC Delco non-synthetic power steering fluid
  • Valvoline non-synthetic power steering fluid

Do NOT use:

  • ATF
  • Synthetic power steering fluid

Will this pump help improve steering performance?

Many customers experience smoother steering response, reduced steering effort at low speeds, quieter operation, and improved reliability compared to factory replacement pumps. The improved internal design provides more consistent hydraulic flow, particularly at lower engine speeds.

Can larger tires affect the power steering pump requirements?

Yes. Larger tires generally require higher steering effort, which can influence the ideal pressure and flow settings. If your vehicle has oversized tires, contact us for recommendations on the best pump configuration.

My power steering pump is noisy. Is the pump always the problem?

Not necessarily. Air in the system, improperly bled steering components, leaking hoses, worn gearboxes, hydroboost units, or poorly designed reservoirs can all create noise. Before replacing a pump, it is important to inspect the entire steering system.

What should I do if I'm unsure which CII pump I need?

Contact our technical support team with your vehicle year, make, model, engine, steering system type (gearbox or rack-and-pinion), brake system type (vacuum or hydroboost), and hose fitting information. We'll help you select the correct pump for your application.
