Power Steering Pressure Relief Valves
Lee Power Steering external pressure relief valve lets you tune your power steering setup for maximum performance. Setting the pump pressure below will reduce pump temperatures, increase pump life, and prevent pressure spikes in your system. The valve block has a test port that allows a pressure gauge to check the system's operating pressure. It is available with either -6 or -8 pressure fittings and -8 or -10 return fittings.
Most of the race teams that we build pumps for use an external pressure relief valve. We set the pressure 50-100 PSI below the pump's internal relief. By doing this, the external valve regulates the pressure, and the pump maintains more flow when the system goes into bypass, drastically improving operating temps and increasing pump life.
Why Choose a Quality External Pressure Relief Valve?
- Optimal Pressure Regulation: high-quality power steering pressure control valves maintain precise pressure levels, ensuring consistent steering performance across various driving conditions.
- Component Longevity: by preventing excessive hydraulic pressure, these valves protect critical parts like the power steering pump, hoses, gearbox, and/or rack-and-pinion assembly from premature wear or failure.
- Enhanced Safety: reliable pressure regulation reduces the risk of system malfunctions, providing drivers with safe and predictable steering control.
-
Lower operating temperatures: this will extend the pump's life.
Frequently Asked Questions About Power Steering Pressure Relief Valves
What is a power steering pressure relief valve?
A power steering pressure relief valve is a hydraulic part that prevents excessive pressure buildup in the power steering system. It ensures smooth steering operation by releasing excess pressure as needed.
Why do I need an external pressure relief valve if the pump already has a set pressure?
When an external relief valve is used, the pump retains more flow when bypassing the design than if it regulates the pressure internally.
How does a power steering pump pressure relief valve work?
The valve monitors hydraulic pressure levels and opens to release excess pressure when it exceeds a predefined threshold. This process protects the power steering pump and other components from damage.
