IMPORTANT: Be sure to check the chart below to make sure this part fits your particular vehicle.

This direct bolt-in CII-style pump, designed by Lee Power Steering, utilizes Saginaw-style internals. This provides a high-performance pump that is much quieter and performs better than those noisy stock Ford pumps.

Why does this part cost more than a remanufactured Ford replacement pump? This new hand-assembled steering pump with all new components is tested at our shop in Valencia, California.

Different Variations of the Ford CII Pump

Ford CII Pump Variations

Reservoir Style

There are three different reservoir can styles:

  1. Single return line barb – for vehicles without hydro boost brakes
  2. Dual return line barbs – for vehicles with hydro boost brakes
  3. No fill cap or neck – for vehicles that use a remote power steering fluid reservoir

Hose Type

Over the years, these pumps came with two different hose thread options:

  • 5/8-18 SAE Inverted Flare
  • 16x1.5MM Metric

Pressure and Flow

Ford also had many different pressure and flow settings depending on the vehicle.

We have simplified this by offering these settings:

  1. Single Return Reservoir for Gearbox: 1450PSI / 2.75GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-GB (METRIC)
  2. Single Return Reservoir for Rack and Pinion: 1250PSI / 2.25GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-R (METRIC)
  3. Dual Return Reservoir for Gearbox with Hydro Boost: 1750PSI / 3.25GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-HB (METRIC)
  4. No Neck (Remote Reservoir) for Rack and Pinion: 1250PSI / 2.5GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-REMOTE-R (METRIC)
  5. Single Return Reservoir for Rack and Gearbox: 1450PSI / 2.75GPM / 5/8-18 SAE Inverted Flare Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-GB (SAE)

Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicles does this CII power steering pump fit?

This pump is designed as a direct bolt-in replacement for many Ford and Mercury vehicles originally equipped with a Ford CII power steering pump and a remote reservoir system. Always verify your vehicle's fitment using the fitment chart before ordering.

What makes this pump different from a remanufactured parts-store pump?

Unlike most remanufactured pumps, this is a brand-new, hand-assembled pump built with all new components and tested at Lee Power Steering. It features Saginaw-style internals that provide quieter operation, improved durability, and better steering performance compared to the original Ford CII design.

Why is this pump quieter than the factory Ford CII pump?

The original Ford CII pump uses a rotor and vane design that is known for producing pump whine. Lee Power Steering's redesigned CII pump uses Saginaw-style internals that flow fluid more efficiently and reduce noise, especially at idle and low engine speeds.

Does this pump use a remote reservoir?

Yes. This version features a "No Neck" reservoir design and is intended for vehicles that use a separate remote-mounted power steering reservoir.

Is this pump designed for a steering gearbox or rack and pinion system?

This pump is specifically configured for rack and pinion steering applications and comes preset to 1250 PSI and 2.5 GPM flow.

What pressure and flow settings does this pump have?

This model is calibrated to:

  • Pressure: 1250 PSI
  • Flow Rate: 2.5 GPM

These settings are optimized for rack and pinion steering systems.

What hose fitting does this pump use?

This pump uses a 16mm x 1.5 metric pressure fitting. Be sure your pressure hose matches this fitting style before installation.

Can I use this pump with hydroboost brakes?

No. This specific pump is not configured for hydroboost applications. The pressure and flow settings are too low for hydroboost applications. Contact our sales team, we can configure a pump for hydroboost if needed.

Can the pressure and flow be customized?

Yes. Lee Power Steering can custom-configure CII pumps with different pressure, flow, reservoir styles, and hose fitting options to match your application.

Will this help eliminate steering pump whine?

In many cases, yes. The Saginaw-style internals used in this pump are specifically designed to operate more quietly than the original Ford CII pump design. Proper installation, fluid quality, and complete air bleeding are still essential for quiet operation.

Is this a direct bolt-in replacement?

Yes. This pump is designed as a direct replacement for Ford CII pumps while offering improved performance and reliability. Always confirm reservoir style, hose fitting type, and steering system compatibility before ordering.

What power steering fluid should I use?

Lee Power Steering Fluid is strongly recommended for maximum pump life and reduced foaming.

Acceptable alternatives include:

  • AC Delco non-synthetic power steering fluid
  • Valvoline non-synthetic power steering fluid

Do NOT use:

  • ATF
  • Synthetic power steering fluid

Does the pump come tested?

Yes. Every pump is assembled and tested by Lee Power Steering before shipment to ensure proper operation and performance.

What are the signs that my CII power steering pump needs replacement?

Common symptoms include:

  • Excessive pump whine
  • Hard steering
  • Intermittent steering assist
  • Fluid leaks
  • Metal contamination in the fluid
  • Steering assist loss at low RPM

How long does installation take?

Installation time varies by vehicle, but most experienced technicians can complete the replacement in approximately 1–3 hours. Additional time may be required for flushing the system and bleeding air from the steering circuit.
