IMPORTANT: Be sure to check the chart below to make sure this part fits your particular vehicle.

This direct bolt-in CII-style pump, designed by Lee Power Steering, utilizes Saginaw-style internals. This provides a high-performance pump that is much quieter and performs better than those noisy stock Ford pumps.

Why does this part cost more than a remanufactured Ford replacement pump? This new hand-assembled steering pump with all new components is tested at our shop in Valencia, California.

Different Variations of the Ford CII Pump

Ford CII Pump Variations

Reservoir Style

There are three different reservoir can styles:

  1. Single return line barb – for vehicles without hydro boost brakes
  2. Dual return line barbs – for vehicles with hydro boost brakes
  3. No fill cap or neck – for vehicles that use a remote power steering fluid reservoir

Hose Type

Over the years, these pumps came with two different hose thread options:

  • 5/8-18 SAE Inverted Flare
  • 16x1.5MM Metric

Pressure and Flow

Ford also had many different pressure and flow settings depending on the vehicle.

We have simplified this by offering these settings:

  1. Single Return Reservoir for Gearbox: 1450PSI / 2.75GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-GB (METRIC)
  2. Single Return Reservoir for Rack and Pinion: 1250PSI / 2.25GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-R (METRIC)
  3. Dual Return Reservoir for Gearbox with Hydro Boost: 1750PSI / 3.25GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-HB (METRIC)
  4. No Neck (Remote Reservoir) for Rack and Pinion: 1250PSI / 2.5GPM / 16x1.5MM Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-REMOTE-R (METRIC)
  5. Single Return Reservoir for Rack and Gearbox: 1450PSI / 2.75GPM / 5/8-18 SAE Inverted Flare Hose - Lee Part #PUMP-CII-GB (SAE)

Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicles does this CII power steering pump fit?

This pump is designed as a direct bolt-in replacement for Ford CII-style power steering pumps found on many Ford vehicles from approximately 1978-2003. Always verify fitment using the vehicle application chart on the product page before ordering.

What makes this pump different from a remanufactured Ford replacement pump?

Unlike most replacement pumps, this unit is built with all-new components and is hand-assembled and tested at Lee Power Steering. It also uses Saginaw-style internals instead of the factory Ford rotor and vane design, resulting in improved performance and reduced pump noise.

Why is my original Ford CII pump so noisy?

The factory Ford CII pump is known for its characteristic whining noise. According to Lee Power Steering's testing, the original Ford rotor and vane design tends to create more noise and wear than the Saginaw-style internals used in this replacement pump.

Is this pump compatible with hydroboost brake systems?

Yes. This specific model features a dual-return reservoir and is designed for vehicles equipped with hydroboost brakes. The second return port allows both the steering system and hydroboost unit to return fluid to the pump reservoir.

What are the pressure and flow specifications?

This pump is configured with:

  • 1750 PSI pressure
  • 3.25 GPM flow rate
  • 16x1.5mm metric pressure hose fitting

These settings are optimized for gearbox applications using hydroboost systems.

Does this pump use a metric or SAE pressure fitting?

This version uses a 16x1.5mm metric pressure fitting. Ford CII pumps were produced with both SAE and metric fitting styles, so be sure to verify your hose connection before ordering.

Can this pump be used with a steering gearbox?

Yes. This pump is specifically configured for steering gearbox applications and hydroboost systems, with higher pressure and flow settings than rack-and-pinion versions.

Can I use this pump with rack-and-pinion steering?

This particular pump is intended for gearbox applications with hydroboost. If you have a rack-and-pinion system, Lee Power Steering offers CII pumps with different pressure and flow settings better suited for rack-and-pinion steering.

Is this a brand-new pump or a rebuilt unit?

This is a brand-new pump built with new components. It is not a remanufactured or rebuilt OEM pump. Each unit is assembled and tested by Lee Power Steering before shipment.

Can the pressure and flow settings be customized?

Yes. Lee Power Steering states that CII pumps can be custom configured with specific pressure, flow, reservoir style, and hose fitting options to match your application.

What reservoir style does this pump use?

This model uses a dual-return reservoir with an integrated fill neck and cap. Dual-return reservoirs are typically required for hydroboost-equipped vehicles.

Where is this pump built and tested?

Each pump is hand-assembled and tested at Lee Power Steering's facility in Valencia/Santa Clarita, California.

Will this pump reduce steering noise?

Many customers choose this pump specifically to eliminate the common whining associated with factory Ford CII pumps. The Saginaw-style internal design was developed to provide quieter operation while maintaining strong steering performance.

What power steering fluid should I use?

Lee Power Steering strongly recommends using their specialty-formulated power steering fluid.

Acceptable alternatives:

  • AC Delco non-synthetic power steering fluid
  • Valvoline non-synthetic power steering fluid

Do NOT use:

  • ATF
  • Synthetic steering fluid

Using improper fluid may lead to aeration, noise, or reduced system life.

How do I know if I need a dual-return reservoir?

If your vehicle uses a hydroboost brake system, you typically need a dual-return reservoir. Vehicles without hydroboost generally use a single-return reservoir.
